Nigerian poetry prize open for entries
The Young Poets Association of Nigeria (Yopan) is calling for entries for the Yopan/Thomson Poetry Prize, which is open to new poets from Nigeria. The prize will be awarded for the third time in 2005. This annual prize will focus on potential talent with the winner receiving N50,000 (US$386).
All first works of poetry including epics, ballads, lyrics, odes, written by a young poet of 10-25 years will be eligible to enter. The emphasis of the prize will be on emerging talent and the evidence of future potential. Judges for the new prize will be looking for poets of excellence, originality and accessibility.
