Review of Books: Africa vs African
The Africa Review of Books, an academic journal, is expected to be launched in December 2003 by the Council for Development of Social Science Research in Africa (Codesria).
The similarity in title with this site, the African Review of Books, is co-incidental and does not imply any relationship between the two titles, which, despite a similarity in name, are very different in nature.
The Africa Review is an academic, peer-reviewed journal which is to be published twice a year, while the African Review is updated as often as new material is available (at least twice a month). Also this publication is not academic and the same time as seeking to offer a high level of debate and critique in all areas of interest to the broad field of African publishing. Where the Africa Review is a print publication, the African Review is only available on the internet. The African Review seeks to create an interest in books from and about Africa, it is not meant to be of interest only to people associated with universities and tertiary education.
The first edition of the Africa Review of Books, being piloted by the Forum for Social Studies (based in Ethiopia), is to be launched at the be launched in Dakar at the Codesria 30th Anniversary Conference in December 2003.
The launch of the Africa Review of Books by Codesria is a welcome contribution to promotion of scholarship of the continent and the African Review of Books wishes it every success.
